What a time to be alive!
From an 80s comeback, to a PVC takeover, to feathers and sheer clothing – this season is far more interesting than any other. Spring-Summer 2018 holds so many different trends that it makes it so hard to keep up!
I’ve tried to gather and highlight the most tackled trends that we will be seeing this summer as seen on the runway!
Okay ladies and gents, let’s get it started with pastel colors. Those soft romantic color shades that remind us all of a good gelato sorbet…and probably romantic summer vibes.
- Denim is Cool Again!
Dark selvedge denim was a huge trend in the early 2000’s and it has made its way back to the runway. One way to style it this season is to wear double denim outfits.
- Life in Plastic, it’s Fantastic!
Whether you like it or not vinyl is a trend, and to all space age fans, this is your time to shine (myself included). As you go through runway pictures, you will sense an André Courrèges and Paco Rabanne 60’s vibes – hence the use of plastic and rubber fabric in tops, coats, boots and even bags! I mean, the fact that a luxury brand such as Chanel used a synthetic piece of material is surely a big statement. (HINT: Climate change!)
- Sheer Up!
Or should I say down? Less is more this season! Sheer layered clothing is now a trend and so is picking the right briefs for that too. The lighter (and sheerer) the tulle, the better ladies!
- Bold is the New Black
Note to self: Wearing black, white and grey is not cool anymore. Primary colors and color blocking are your next targets. Everyone is calling it the “Crayola” trend (Lol!). Whether you style this color with a dress, a suit or even a fabulous pair of shoes, the brighter the better people!
- Check Mate
Checks have always been a traditional wintery trend until this season, when every single designer interpreted it in a different way. From Marni’s cutting-edge coats, to Balenciaga’s pencil skirt and Christopher Bailey’s last Burberry show with none other than THE traditional check.
- Shake It Off!
Time to have some fun this summer! Shake off the stress while rocking those fringes. From Saint Laurent’s fringing boots, to Celine and Calvin Klein’s over-the-top fringed dresses, why don’t we all give it a try? Count me in!
- 80s Party Girl
The 80’s era is here to stay. From puffed sleeved jackets to voluminous skirts and power suits. “Off-White”’s Virgil Abloh dedicated his collection to the late Princess Diana while referencing her 80’s attire during his SS18 show.
- Kaia Gerber’s modeling climax with her walking in almost all the shows.
- Karl Lagerfeld’s unstoppable creativity. He had real live cascades at the Grand Palais in Paris that were made just for the Chanel show.
- Donatella Versace’s epic homage show dedicated to her brother Gianni, with everyone’s favourite supermodels of all time.
Which trend would you dare to give it a try? I am definitely getting anything PVC I see in stores and will style it with my everyday clothing. On the other hand, I love a good extravagant top, so I would definitely try out one of those 80s inspired tops with exaggerated puffed shoulders!
